Flag News

Today, after months of searching and looking for the best options to move forward,  we decided on a plan. I’ve personally reached out to a new flag manufacturer, and they’ve agreed to supply me with a small sample run for a mass production version of the Maegnolyun. The sample run will consist of 10 Maegnolyun flags, to be produced, and sent to me directly to inspect for quality and accuracy of color and design over the course of the next couple of weeks.  These First ten will not be sold to the general public but will be given to notable people who have supported me from the beginning in this endeavor — hopefully as Christmas gifts good lord willing.

These first flags will be produced by a Chinese fabric manufacturer. While we had hoped to produce the Maegnolyun in the US, and preferably in the South itself, costs of production for such low numbers simply priced the flags beyond  what could be reasonably expected to be paid for a yet obscure flag. As time goes on we will continue to explore other production options, but with this pending deal, the flag that had previously been about $40/flag (with $0.00 going to myself or the Maegnolyun group) will now cost far, far less.

So how much will a Maegnolyun be? We are hoping to have the cost of the flag be around $5USD per unit. We tried to communicate with a few distributors, but conflicts of interest, or risk aversion, has lead me  to make the decision that the flag will be self-distributed; for now.  What  this will loook like will be announced at a later date, but I want to avoid having the flag relagated to a storefront on this site where it is the only front.  I also don’t really want to see the Maegnolyun project itself to evolve into a capitalistic business venture. I’m a capitalist myself, but I don’t want to see the southern Identity be remembered for commodifying the Southern identity for my own gain. I don’t mind getting paid for my work, or paying the people helping me with this project for theirs; however, to turn the Maegnolyun into some cynical brand; I don’t feel comfortable with; no matter how much or little is on the table. If the Maegnolyun project is to expand, I’d rather it be as an Association dedicated to advancement of Southern culture, and the helping the people of Dixie.

The New Logo

Folks that have been around since the beginning have probably seen the social media of the Maegnolyun change its logo with minor changes every few months. Well I’m glad to tell everyone that is done and this is the new, and hopefully final,  logo of the Maegnolyun Project.

The Logo features four years written in Roman numerals. the years are:

MMXXII- 2022-  The year the Maegnolyun Project began. While the the idea of the project existed before this year, this was the year it was formally organized. (We may change this to MMXXIII (2023 if future plans go as intended at this time))

MDCVII-1607- The year of the founding of the Jamestown Colony in modern day Virginia.

MDCCLXXVI-1776- The year of the American colonies’ declaration of independence for the British empire.

MDCCCLXV-1865- The year the South surrendered, ending its own bout for independence. We chose the year 1865 (as opposed to the year 1861)  to declare the Maegnolyun Project’s  Belief in the New South. The Project, and the Maegnolyun flag seeks to symbolize a Southern Renaissance, and a New South connected with its past, but not bound by it. The Magnolian flag is the flag of the post-bellum South.  And for the postbellum South, the fall of the Confederate States is a far more important event than their birth. It was the event that would lay the groundwork for both the chaos of the Reconstruction, The Civil-Rights era, and the coming future.

What of the Future?

The plans of 2023 are still being laid out. But, since we’re taking full control of the Magnolian Flag’s distribution and sales; Suring up legal protections for the project is likely.

The Mag will now begin as a a roughly biweekly blog publication to keep the community up to date on news surrounding the project.

Incorporation is also on the table for the legal protections it provides, and the ease of doing the limited amount of business we’re planning on doing. Such a decision would result in the Maegnolyun Project transforming into the “Maegnolyun Association”. But such a move right now is unnecessary given the project’s size. However the formation of the Association is on the table and being openly discussed.

C’y’all next time.
